Free Market Medicine

There was a point in Chinese history when you paid the doctor when you were healthy. The moment you got sick you stop paying. If the local doctor wanted to get paid, it was his job to bring you back to full health.
Interesting idea.
I am huge fan of the free market and I believe the free market is the best tool in most cases to solve social problems. I believe this is true with heath, healing, and the heath care system.
The problem is we don’t have a health care system. We have created a disease treatment system. In most cases, a medical provider gets paid when he/she provides a treatment to fix something that is wrong. There is little incentive in free market to insure health.
In Gary Craig’s words, “We are on the ground floor of healing.” I believe a shift is afoot. More and more self-maintenance techniques are being taught and used. People are asking questions about the foods they eat and the drugs they put in their body.
As a culture we already know how to do self-maintenance. How many times this week did you brush your teeth. A simple task done a few times a day to insure dental health.
Look for ways to stay in good health. Demand them in the market place. If you do, the market place will respond.
