While waking to baggage claim Monday I was having a typical travel conversation with my seatmate.
“Business or Pleasure?” “Visit Baltimore much?” “What do you do for a living?”
He shared his life as a volunteer in youth ministry with his kids who are all now grown. How his kids went to Young Life camp as kids and are now counselors.
By the time we got to baggage claim he said, “I it is good to hear they are doing youth ministry in the Catholic Church.” He then told me a story.
That made me sad. It was good to hear that he did find a home, a place his family was fed, but his family (and my family) told him he wasn’t welcome.
It points to how hard any big organization is. All members speak for the whole. If one makes poor choices it effects all.
The pastor asked if we were members of the church.
I told him I didn’t know. We have come every week for the last year.
The pastor said, “Why do we get you a set of envelops and see how the next few months go and then we can baptize your daughter.
I walked out the door to never come back.
