Platform

I think there is an interesting discussion about how we are permitted and how we should use are platform. There are moments in our lives when our platform is bigger than other times. There are consequences for using these platforms (positive and negative).
A group of high school students where given a unique platform is Washington DC this week.
More than 120 high school seniors where recognized as Presidential Scholars at the White House on Monday. 50 of them signed and presented the President with a hand written note, because they “believe we have a responsibility to voice our convictions.”
The note read in part:

We do not want America to represent torture. We urge you to do all in your power to stop violations of the human rights of detainees, to cease illegal renditions, and to apply the Geneva Convention to all detainees, including those designated enemy combatants.

No matter if you agree with the note or not, these young Americans should be applauded for their willingness to engage in the process and speak to their convictions.

What We Are

“We do not know what we want and yet we are responsible for what we are – that is the fact.”

He said do what?

I couldn’t have said it better myself:

Tony Campolo is a hero of mine.
“The fact is that there are two thousand verses of Scripture that talk about caring for the poor. I don’t care whatever else you into if you ignore what the bible is really about – helping poor and oppressed people – you missed the message of Jesus.”
“The only description that Jesus gives of Judgment Day is how we treated the poor. It’s Matthew 25, I was hungry, did you feed me?? There is no Christianity that does not tie us up with the poor and oppressed of the world.”
