The 3 wise men have a very intellectual approach, carefully calculating where the star will be etc. The shepherds are impetuous and emotional. They see the angels and get overwhelmed with excitement. Mary has a gentle, contemplative attitude though I think she and Joseph also had a practical one - where can we find a "parking place" for our family which is about to be "plus one". The manger only has to stand and wait and its role is fulfilled but St John is filled with a fiery and focused intensity. Yet all of them were able to find their way to Jesus. No one said, "You're too cold and intellectual" to the wise men or "you're too emotional and impulsive" to the shepherds. Everyone was welcome and everyone is still welcome. As a counselor, I have seen first hand the brutality inflicted on gays, not with hands , fist or weapons, but by "Christians" with their words and bibles, teaching young people that they are hated by God, because an accident of birth gave them a different sexual orientation. Imagine the pain one must suffer believing that even God hates you! Thank you for telling about the truly Christ like acts of those who placed themselves between hatred and the mourners...and, Yes, it did ( and does) something very powerful.
